Get your own Homemade Strawberry Jam label

When we re-designed our garden a few years ago, I had the plan to make a ‘picking-wall’. On one side of our garden we have  a very long wooden fence, I wanted to cheer it up with climbing plants. So onto the fence , John made ‘screens’ where the plants could climb up onto. I chose some plants with pretty flowers, but also a few with berries. We have strawberries, blackberries,  gooseberries and wineberries - > my favourites! And not only because they have the word wine in them ;-)

When they are ripe (Huub keeps picking them when they’re green though), we always eat them right away. But I always have the dream to make my own jam; for the delicious jam, but mainly because then I can make cute labels for the jars.

Bottomline, I don’t see me making jam in the near future, but I did make  the cute labels… Maybe one of you is making their own jam. Birthdaygift

Gisteravond gaf vriendin en collega en collegablogger Mandy haar verjaardagsfeestje. Voor haar had ik 2 speldjes gehaakt voor in je haar. Zie hier het resultaat:

Budget en milieu vriendelijk

Mijn sieradenbak was nogal een zooitje, veel kettingen stuk (slappe troep...) maar wel met mooie kralen. Dus kwam ik op het idee om ze allemaal uit elkaar te halen en daar weer nieuwe van te maken! Budget en milieuvriendelijk! Hieronder zie je mijn eerste creatie, een houtenkralen ketting met een gehaakt bloemetje eraan. Ja, het haakvrius is overal...

Ook probeerde ik een zelfportret te maken met de ketting, maar daar ben ik niet zo goed in, zoals je ziet...

My jewelrybox was quite a mess, lots of broken necklaces (weak mess...) but with beautiful beads. So I got the idea to tear them apart and make new ones out of it! Budget and environmentally friendly! Below is my first creation, a wood bead necklace with a crocheted flower on it. Yes, it's everywhere ... my crochetvirus
I also tried to make a self portrait with the necklace, but I'm not very good at it, as you see ...

Huubs' verjaardagstaart

Afgelopen zaterdag is Huub 1 jaar geworden, wat een feest! We hadden een feestje georganiseerd en daar hoort natuurlijk een verjaardagstaart bij. Ik had besloten deze zelf te maken. Dus gingen we in de week vooraf naar 'De Leukste Taartenshop' in Wormerveer. Na 3 kwartier (dit vond John nogal lang...) rondjes door de winkel lopen had ik alles zo'n beetje bij elkaar. Ik had serieus geprobeerd om enigszins budgetmatig te kiezen, dit was niet gelukt... (dit vond John natuurlijk ook niet zo leuk) Dus de druk lag hoog om een fantastische taart te maken.

Zie hieronder een korte werkbeschrijving en het resultaat en oordeel zelf:

Last Saturday it was Huub's first birthday! We planned a party and of course ther had to be a birthday cake. I decided to make it myself. So in the week prior we went to a specialized cake-shop. After 45 minutes (John's patience was being tested...) running laps in the store I had everything pretty much together. I seriously tried to choose for a small budget, I wasn't successful... (John didn't like this either...) So the pressure was high to make a wonderfull cake.

Hierna kwam het moeilijkste gedeelte, de witte marsepein uitrollen tot een grote dunne lap. Ik ging er zo in op dat ik er geen foto van heb gemaakt... Zie hier de resten van de grote witte lap:

After this I had to do the hardest part of making the cake. Rolling out the marzipan to a big thin paste (< is this the right word?) I was so concentrated that I forgot to take a picture... These are the leftovers of the big thin paste:

Ook heb ik marsepeinen balletjes gerold voor om de 1 heen. Het resultaat:

Then I rolled little marzipan balls for around the edges. The result:

Mini-project

Wij hebben ons 'thuiskantoor' in de slaapkamer. Dan is het wel zo leuk als het er gezellig en opgeruimd uitziet. (Dat opgeruimde is nog wel eens een probleem...)

Nu heb ik de ruggen van de mappen met alle belangrijke papieren eens wat gezelliger gemaakt. Het is een klein uurtje werk, prima te doen tijdens een tukkie van Huub!

We have our "home office" in the bedroom. Then it is nice when it looks cozy and tidy. (Tidy is sometimes a problem...)
Now I've scrapped the backs of the folders with all important papers.It is an hour's work, good to do during a nap of Huub!
