StarWars

Terwijl ik m'n computer doorzocht naar iets, kwam ik dit patroon en tekening tegen. Vorig jaar heb ik voor het eerst in m'n leven de eerste drie StarWars films gekeken... Dan ben je 32 jaar en kom je erachter dat je dat echt supertof vindt! Nooit geweten dat ik van Sciencefiction hield, maar bij deze: JA!

Ik ging destijds door een StarWars periode en maakte een R2D2 illustratie en patroon..

While I was searching something on my computer, I ran into this illustration and pattern.

Last year I've watched the first three movies of StarWars for the first time in my life... 32 years old and I found out I like StarWars! Never thought I would like science fiction, but: YES, I do! 

I was going through a StarWars period at the time and made this illustration and pattern of R2D2..

Dit ontwerp heb ik gemaakt in Illustrator, de liefde blijft voor dit programma :) 

Ook zet ik nu babystapjes in het maken van typografie met het potlood gereedschap. Vind ik leuk om mee te spelen de laatste tijd.

I designed this in Illustrator, my longterm love :) I'm taking first steps in making my own typography with the pencil tool. I like to play with that lately.

Real Life happening here

Een trend van nu is 'handgeschreven' typografie op schoolbord. Ik vind het prachtig! Vaak een mooie tekst of quote van de Dalai Lama, J.R.R. Tolkien, Martin Luther King of anoniem (wie is dat toch? Hij/zij heeft er echt veel! ;) ) en vele anderen.Graag wilde ik een keer zo'n typografietje maken. Btje uitproberen in Illustrator en Photoshop en dit is waar ik tot kwam.Ik wilde graag een tekst die ik in de woonkamer kan ophangen en was geïnspireerd door een foto op Instagram. Een foto van een dagelijks gezinstafereel met als onderschrift 'Real life going on here' Ik heb dat een beetje veranderd en dit er van gemaakt:

There's a trend going on with 'handwritten' typography on chalkboard. I love it! They often use a beautiful quote of the Dalai Lama, J.R.R. Tolkien, Martin Luther King or anonymous (Who is that? He/she has so many! ;) ) and many others.I really wanted to make one by myself, to hang in the living room with us. For the quote I was inspired by an Instagram pic, it was a very 'daily life' thing of a family with the caption 'Real life going on here' I changed it a little and made this of it:

1 oktober, gevoelsmatig voor mij de start van de Herfst! (Al hebben we een paar jaar geleden gebarbecued op 1 oktober)Wat ik zo fijn vind aan de herfst zijn de prachtige kleuren! Van een kastanje, mos op de takken, verkleurde bladeren aan de bomen, prachtige roze/paars/blauwe luchten in de vroege ochtend (als er geen wolken zijn natuurlijk ;)) Met dit palet in mijn hoofd heb ik deze typografische illustratie gemaakt.Geniet allemaal van een mooie oktober!

October 1st, this day always feels like the first day of autumn to me. What I love about Autumn are the beautiful colors! The color of a chestnut, moss on the branches of a tree, the fading leaves, the beautiful ombre sky early in the morning (when it's not cloudy ;)) With this color palette in mind, I made this typographic illustration.Enjoy the beautiful October!

Happy summer!

Summer started a few days ago and we finally notice it in summer weather! I want to wish everybody a very happy summer!

I've made this design a few weeks ago in illustrator.

Stoere-jongens-meetlat / Cool-boys-ruler

Toen Huub nog iets kleiner was en net kon staan wilde ik graag een meetlat voor op zijn kamer. Zo kon ik hem opmeten en  dat mooi bijhouden. Op zoek naar een meetlat dus! Ik wilde echt een stoere-jongens-meetlat maar kon die niet echt vinden, ze waren allemaal echt voor baby's. 

Huub was destijds, en nu nog steeds trouwens, erg bezig met alles wat wielen heeft en/of herrie maakt. 

Dus heb ik zelf voor hem een meetlat gemaakt met allemaal stoere-jongens voertuigen. 

Ik heb het ontwerp gemaakt in Illustrator en Indesign en daarna (in delen) uitgeprint. Bij de bouwmarkt heb ik (nouja, John eigenlijk) een dunne houten plaat op maat laten zagen. ik heb de print eerst op het hout geplakt en daarna met boeklon (kaftfolie) bekleed. 

Natuurlijk heeft de meetlat ook een vuilniswagen met zijlader erop, omdat zijn oom Rick daar op werkt.

Of course, the ruler has a trash truck on it, the one his uncle Rick works on.

When Huub was a little smaller, and was just able to stand, I wanted a ruler for in his room. That way, I could measure him once in a while. So I went out to search for a cool-dudes-ruler. But I couldn't find one, they were all too 'baby' for me.

Huub was really into everything with wheels and/or stuff that made noise (he still is). 

So I made a design for him myself. 

I've made the design in Illustrator and Indesign and after that I printed it (in parts). At the hardware-store I bought a thin wooden plate in the right size (ok, actually John did that). First I glued the print onto the wooden plate and after that I wrapped it with cover foil.

week 42: Patterns

A while back I got CS 6 on my computer, it stands for Creative Suit 6 and has the programs Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. They're the programs most used by graphic designers (like me). Illustrator is my alltime favourite!

In Illustrator they added a lot of extra's to make patterns. So I had to dive in! It's always been my secret wish to design wallpaper and fabrics! Let me show you what I've made so far:

I started with the one above. I tryed to make a retro style. It's a little static (don't know if it's the right word). But nice to begin with :) (I thought of a teatowel)

Then I tryed to make a design, where you wouldn't see the repeat of the design so clearly. That's very difficult, I didn't succeed, but it's a beginning. (my next challenge!!)

Then I tryed to design a few patterns, that would make a good combination together. (Just in case they become fabrics one day, and I want to make a quilt of it ;) )

Illustrator tutorial

Lately I've been doing a lot of tutorials in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Just to keep me sharp and updated.

I found a tutorial on the internet that was a combination of Illustrator and Photoshop, but after step 3 I couldn't figure it out anymore. (they skipped so many steps). So I thought: I think I can make this, just in Illustrator (my favourite anyway :))

Well, here's the result:
